Sunny weekend approaches, but dry conditions, mild weather raise fire risk amid ongoing drought

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – Hi, Jacksonville! If you’ve stepped outside lately, you might’ve noticed things are looking and feeling extra dry.

Right now, our area is under extreme to exceptional drought conditions, and that “exceptional” part is starting to take over more of Jacksonville and nearby spots.

This isn’t just a quick fix, either. From what we’re seeing on The Weather Authority’s Exact Track 4D, it’ll take a lot more than a handful of rainy afternoons to make up for our rainfall deficit.

It’s going to take significant rain events over time before we chip away at this drought.

With the drought sticking around, fire and smoke risks are high.

That means outdoor burning just isn’t safe right now, and the National Weather Service is advising you to water those lawns only once a week to help conserve what resources we have.

Sunny skies and light showers ahead

Here’s the good news—Mother Nature decided it was time to roll out the sunshine! We’re looking at a warm, bright weekend across Jacksonville, so get ready to soak it in.

Today, winds are breezy along the coast—think Mayport at around 17 mph, a little lower in places like St. Augustine and the airport. These winds aren’t as intense as yesterday, which is a relief for anyone heading out.

A couple of light showers might blow in off the Atlantic, but they’ll be quick and shouldn’t cause any real problems. So far, we’ve spotted them near Fernandina Beach and Callahan, but nothing major has popped up.

No fog trouble this morning! Temperatures are comfy—40s up in Georgia, 50s in Macclenny and Lake City, and 60s across most other areas.

Perfect weather for outdoor plans

If you’re thinking about hitting the golf course or taking a long lunch outside, you’re in for a treat.

Daytime highs are forecast to land around 77 degrees by 4 p.m. Expect breezy winds between the teens and twenties, gradually easing through the day.

Tonight looks clear and comfortable, with temperatures dipping to about 57 degrees under peaceful skies. The weekend holds more of this mild, sunny pattern—so keep those sunglasses handy!

Stay cautious and share your snaps!

While dry weather brings those perfect blue skies, remember that our drought and fire risk mean no outdoor burning and limited watering. Let’s all do our part!

And if you’re out and about enjoying the sunshine, I’d love to see what Jacksonville looks like from your point of view. Share your weather photos with SnapJAX at news4jax.com/snapjax!
