Drought worsens as high pressure brings dry and sunny week

High pressure locks in dry weather with little relief in sight

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – The rest of the day will feature a mix of sun and clouds with temperatures in the 80s. Tonight will be pleasant with a mostly clear sky. Temperatures will be in the 50s and 60s.

Dense fog will be possible overnight. Make sure to plan extra travel time if you are heading out early Sunday morning.

The general pattern over the next week will feature sunshine and dry conditions thanks to a large area of high pressure overhead. Quite a change from earlier in the week where we had several days of rain and clouds.

The rainfall outlook is not good news for our area. Over the next seven days, little or no rain is expected, and we certainly need any rain that we can get due to the worsening drought over our area.

Regarding the drought, the latest drought monitor reflects the overall pattern over the past few months. Most of our area remains in an extreme drought. An exceptional drought classification has been expanded to include more of our area.
