Drought worsens as fire risk remains high

Scattered showers & storms offer limited relief amid expanding exceptional drought

The fire weather threat will remain elevated this weekend.

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – An isolated shower or storm will be possible for the rest of the day with temperatures in the 80s.

Exercise extreme caution if you are outdoors and make sure to follow any burn ban in place as the fire weather threat is high due to the dry ground, low humidity and the breeze.

Sunday will feature more clouds and the chance for showers and storms thanks to an approaching front. High temperatures will be in the mid to upper 80s.

Scattered showers and storms are likely as a front pushes across our area later in the day. Any rainfall would be beneficial with the ongoing fires and drought.

We will dry out early next week as another area of high pressure will move in behind the front. Highs will be in the 70s and 80s.

The good news is that the dry pattern may change as we head into the end of April. Our area is highlighted in seeing a higher probability of above normal rainfall.
