JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – Dense Smoke Advisory remains in effect for Brantley, Wayne and inland Glynn counties of southeast Georgia until 10 a.m. Visibilities could be less than 1/2 mile. Also, be mindful of the air quality where you are and seek indoor relief if the smoke smell becomes too strong.
Planning to spend time outside today? You may want to keep one eye on the sky. Scattered showers and a few thunderstorms could pop up this afternoon and stick around into the evening. And, we need it!
Storm chances are highest, up to 40%, along the east coast sea breeze and across southeast Georgia. If storms do pop up, the main concerns are gusty winds and lightning. There’s also a chance a stronger storm could develop near the coast or over interior southeast Georgia, so it’s worth keeping your Weather Authority app open for the latest updates.
Once the sun goes down and things cool off, the storms should gradually fizzle out. A few lingering showers overnight can’t be ruled out.
Warm temps today, fog possible this weekend
It’s going to be a warm one. Highs today will top out between 85 and 90 degrees, close to record territory (92/1958), but probably just short of breaking any records. Tonight will be much more comfortable, with lows dropping into the lower 60s. Spots near the coast could stay a bit warmer, hovering in the mid-60s.
If you’re in an inland area, watch for some patchy fog and low-hanging clouds are likely Sunday morning if you’re in the western counties. A cold front is pushing into the southeastern U.S. but isn’t expected to make a big difference locally until at least early Sunday, when it’s forecast to reach central Georgia and Alabama.
