Major rain and storms on the way
JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – Hey, it’s Meteorologist Katie Garner here with The Weather Authority on News4JAX, bringing you the most up-to-date forecast using Exact Track 4D. Let’s get right to it because the weather story is all about a major round of rain and storms moving through Jacksonville.
Right now, you might not see much in the way of rain, but don’t let that lull you into a false sense of security. The real action is forecast for Saturday. Your best chance to get out and enjoy the day will be early, because starting around 1 p.m. and stretching through 5 p.m., Exact Track 4D shows the heaviest rain and strong wind gusts passing across the area. That means you might need to reschedule any afternoon plans, and you’ll definitely want to keep your umbrella close.
I know we’ve needed the rain, so it’s actually a good thing—even if it feels a little inconvenient. After about 5 p.m., lingering showers are still possible, but they look more annoying than anything severe. The heaviest stuff will be earlier in the afternoon.
Warm, dry weather to follow
The good news is this system isn’t sticking around long. On Sunday, the rain chance drops really fast. If you’re itching for sun and warmth, you won’t have to wait. The latest data shows only a slight 10% rain chance for Sunday, with temperatures still plenty comfortable around 74 degrees.
Early next week, I’m seeing a big jump in temperatures. We’re talking about highs in the upper 70s to low 80s Monday and Tuesday, and even creeping back into the 90s by midweek. It looks like we’ll settle into a very warm, mostly dry pattern through Wednesday, so make your outdoor plans accordingly.
Current conditions and outdoor plans
As I check current conditions, expect readings in the 60s and 70s at JAX Airport, St. Augustine, and Mayport. Winds are staying fairly light, around 5 to 10 mph, which is helping keep the fire risk in check for now.
If you’re thinking of taking your dog out for a walk today, you should be in good shape for most of the day—just keep an eye on those showers moving in later. I know we all have plans for the weekend, so make the most of the dry windows before the downpours arrive.
