Showers and storms begin Saturday
JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – Good morning, friends! Saturday is starting off absolutely beautiful around Jacksonville and northeast Florida. We’ve got a clear sky and a sunrise that’s hard to beat.
But you’ll want to wrap up your errands early today. Showers and a few thunderstorms are expected to move in between about 2 p.m. and 8 p.m., and continue off and on through Monday. Not everyone will see rain at the same time, but those who do can expect quick bursts—these are the exact kind of showers we really need as we continue to deal with ongoing drought conditions.
Early this morning, temperatures are already in the 60s and 70s across Jacksonville, St. Augustine, Brunswick, and Waycross. It won’t take long to warm up into the 70s for most of us. Winds will generally be in that 10 to 15 mph range but can pick up a bit more as those storms roll in.
If you track rainfall at home, I’d love for you to share your rain gauge totals with us over on SnapJAX! It’s a fun way to see how much rain hits your backyard compared to your neighbor’s.
Mother’s Day: wet, but not a washout
If you’re looking ahead to Sunday, especially for Mother’s Day plans, keep your umbrella handy! Showers are expected, but they likely won’t be as widespread or as heavy as Saturday.
Celebrate Mom all weekend, and if you can, get cozy at home when the rain moves in. Expect some breaks between the showers, and remember: the rain is doing us a big favor by helping chip away at that drought.
Current weather and drought update
Right now, the Exact Track 4D radar is showing clear conditions, but that’s expected to change later today. Temperatures at the start of the day are pleasant and typical for May, with Jacksonville at 69 degrees, St. Augustine at 73, Brunswick at 69, and Waycross at 68.
Drought is still a concern. Even with this weekend’s welcomed rainfall, it won’t be enough to completely pull us out. We’ll keep monitoring the trends closely.
