Sunny skies and soaring temperatures—what to expect this week

Fire danger, pet tips, and a warming trend

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – Good morning! If you’re hoping for sunshine and a good excuse to get outside, Jacksonville is delivering just that. We’re waking up to calm, clear skies with those blissful 60s and 70s first thing—even Riverside is feeling fantastic!

Don’t be surprised when things start to heat up by mid-afternoon.

We’re looking at a 16-degree jump between 7 a.m. and 3 p.m., with highs expected around 87 degrees today.

So, if you’re planning a sunrise walk or maybe feeling tempted to be just a little late getting in from the beach, I can’t say I’d blame you.

Temperatures will continue climbing as the week goes on. By Thursday and Friday, you’re likely to see those highs push right up to 89 or even 90 degrees.

That’s toasty, but about what we expect this time of year!

There’s only about a 5% shot at a shower today, and looking at Exact Track 4D radar, Jacksonville will stay dry through Thursday. Our rain chances don’t really rise until we hit the weekend, and even then, we’re just talking about scattered, not soaking, showers.

Fire danger: Please use caution

As much as I wish I could say go out and enjoy a fire pit tonight, I can’t in good conscience recommend it.

Wind gusts are hitting the teens, and with all this dry weather, fire danger is up.

If you’re a smoker, please make sure to properly put out those cigarettes—every little bit helps keep our community safe.

I get so many emails about fire pits. Trust me, I love one as much as anyone, but right now it’s just not the best idea.

Watch those paws in the afternoon

By 2 p.m., we’re expected to be near 87 degrees, and those sidewalks get hot!

If you’re walking your dog, try to do it early or stick to grassy areas. I’ve been there with my own pup—it’s just not worth risking burned paws.

The best dog walks this week are in the early morning before things heat up.

Looking ahead this week

Most days through Thursday are forecast to be mostly clear and warm—highs around 87 to 89 degrees, lows in the low 70s.

Rain chances are only expected to reach 20% by late week, with a bump to 30% or 40% over the weekend, bringing more scattered activity.
