Sunday’s heat, lingering storm threat in Northeast Florida, Southeast Georgia

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – A cool front pushing southward will be the main weather maker Sunday and Monday, bringing widespread showers and thunderstorms to the region.

With more moisture in the air and the combination of the frontal boundary, the sea breeze could fuel numerous showers and storms throughout the day. Northeast winds will help steer the storms from the northwest and should help limit the overall flooding threat somewhat, though slow-moving storms could still result in isolated flooding.

Heat remains dangerous south of Waycross

Before storms arrive, temperatures are expected to surge into the mid to upper 90s across areas south of Waycross.

High temperatures Sunday will remain above normal, generally in the mid-90s, with some spots possibly reaching the upper 90s. Conditions are currently forecast to fall just below Heat Advisory criteria for most areas Sunday, though an advisory could still be issued later in the evening depending on the latest forecast trends.
