Poison Ivy, stomach bug after spring break

What's Going Around

As your kids start to spend more time outside you might want to remind them about how to spot poison ivy.

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – Post spring break blues aren't the only thing kids are fighting this week. Many of them are coming back from vacation with outdoor injuries, poison ivy, and even the flu.

CareSpots in Duval County say students who caught the flu this week all had one thing in common-- they spent their vacation at Disney. According to nurses, there was an outbreak of influenza that affected several kids coming back from Orlando. Some vacationers also came back with a stomach bug.

In Clay County at the CareSpot in Middleburg- cover your mouth, carry around hand sanitizer and tissues. That's the message this week as the dip in temperatures has meant a flare up of sinusitis, chronic coughing and flu-like symptoms.

In St. Johns County at CareSpot in St. Augustine...red blisters, itchy and irritated skin-- spring break meant poison ivy for several students. Sinusitis and bronchitis are sticking around and keeping our doctors busy as well.

In Nassau County, I checked with a number of doctors and the care spot in Yulee to see if the wildfires led to any health problems. So far, they're checking in problem free. They're mainly dealing with the flu, allergies, and sinus infections
