Deadly holiday weekend in Jacksonville

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – Four people were killed and another ten were shot and injured in nine separate incidents over Memorial Day Weekend.

Friday night, a 12-year old boy was accidentally shot in the leg at 6th Street and McMillian. 19-year-old Antonio Tyler was arrested in relation to the shooting. The victim initially said he heard one gunshot and noticed he was shot in the leg, according to police. He first said that he did not see who shot him, but later, at the hospital the victim changed his story, saying that prior to the shooting, the suspect had been playing with a firearm, according to police.

There were multiple people inside a home on Raw Hyde Trail North when the shooting happened on Saturday, police said. Zion Brown, 18, was shot and killed and two teenage girls were wounded, according to investigators. Police said they are working with witnesses and a family member to figure out what led to the shooting.

The first shooting on Sunday was reported at 4:23 a.m. on 103rd Street at the Park West Emergency Room, where a man had driven himself there with a non-life-threatening gunshot wound to his back. He was later taken to Orange Park Medical Center for further treatment.

He told JSO that he was driving on Old Middleburg Road when a woman driving a white pickup truck and wearing a pink shirt started shooting at him. He was shot in the back and the rear window had several bullet holes in it.

Thirty minutes later, police were called to a shooting on Banyan Drive, just a mile away, where a man in his 20s was shot in the hand and face, police said.

Detectives spent several hours combing for evidence at a home on Banyan Drive, just off Wesconnett Boulevard. 

Police said two people at the home were in an argument that led to gunfire.

The shooter left the scene before police arrived, but drove back a short time later, and was taken in for questioning, officials said. Napolean Brown, 29, was charged with aggravated assault and attempted murder.

The victim was driven by his friend to UF Health Jacksonville with non-life-threatening injuries, police said.

Also Sunday morning, a man was shot at 11400 Quailhollow Drive. He told police that it happened at an apartment complex at 11501 Harts Road, but was otherwise uncooperative. 

Around the same time, a man was found shot to death behind a vacant house at 300 King Street.

On Sunday night, Hakeem Busch, 35, was shot and killed and a woman was wounded at 1800 Newbolt Court.

On Monday, police said that one person was shot and killed and another person was injured in a shooting at Roosevelt Gardens on Lincoln Court Road in the Hogan's Creek neighborhood. The deceased victim was identified as Jared Orin Mobley, 34. The injured individual was taken to the hospital, according to police. Police said that rifles were found at the scene. Within a half-mile radius of the shooting, there have been five homicides and 57 assaults reported in 2017.

Late Monday evening, police said, two people were shot on Justina Road in the Arlington Manor neighborhood. The extent of their injuries is unknown at this time.
