Weigh yourself on Wednesdays

If your goal is to lose weight in 2015 make sure you weigh yourself on Wednesdays. A recent Finnish study finds Wednesday is the day when your weight is least likely to fluctuate.

"Most people tend to gain weight on the weekends due to eating out a little more often, maybe snacking, maybe drinking alcohol, or maybe sweetened beverages a little more often," said Julia Zumpano, who did not take part in the study but is a registered dietitian at Cleveland Clinic.

Researchers at Finland's Tampere University of Technology took 40 overweight adults and weighed them nearly 2,900 times over the course of a year. They found Wednesdays generally gave a much more typical reading of genuine weight because the weekend showed much bigger gains and losses.

Researchers say we typically weigh more on the weekend and burn the pounds off during the week. Zumpano agrees with the results but says on Wednesday, or any day, the key to accurately tracking your weight is consistency.

"The same scale, the same amount of clothing, the same time of day, the same time of week, so that's what I would really recommend. Keep it very consistent," she said.
