JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – Edward Waters College has been placed on accreditation warning and been given a year to prove to the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools Commission on Colleges it has enough full-time teachers and to resolve other issues.
A warning is the mildest form of sanction, according to college officials.

In a statement released Friday, the college said it, "Being placed on warning does not signify an institution is in danger of losing its accreditation. It simply implies the college is expected to thoroughly and expeditiously address the issues raised by SACS and submit follow-up reports outlining the improvements."
The notice indicated that the college should also provide further data on its assessment measures and its Quality Enhancement Plan.
"The College will not know the specifics that prompted SACS' decision until it receives SACS' official written notice in mid-January," the statement read.
In December 2012, the commission's Board of Trustees will issue an update on the college's status following the submission of a monitoring report in September.
"Throughout the year, the college has made great strides in shoring up components of its fiscal and physical infrastructures," EWC President Nathaniel Glover said. "Now, SACS is requiring us to focus our attention to providing them additional academic data. Therefore, we will be adjusting operations in order to meet their requirements in the upcoming year to ensure the warning is lifted."
EWC briefly lost its accreditation in 2004.
