Jacksonville, Fla. – 'Sausage Party' will change the way you see food forever (Rated-R)
Warning: This movie is not for children!
Hilarious. Horrible. Shocker. Offensive. You will either love or hate the animated comedy "Sausage Party."
This movie is set in a grocery store. Every morning, the many wonderful items in your grocery store are waiting to go home with you until a returned item of honey mustard tells everyone the truth; humans eat you after they purchase you. Frank (Seth Rogen) is a sausage that accidentally gets out of his packaging when a couple of items fall on the supermarket floor. Now Frank and friends are on a mission to tell all of their friends from produce to the non-perishables the truth.
The plot is funny and hilarious.
However, the vulgar language, stereotypes and hyper-sexual discussions take this movie to a level of offensiveness that seems impossible for an animated film. The food characters are culturally and racially fixed on loosely connected origins. No culture is spared from offensive jokes. The supermarket becomes a generalized symbol of the world. In the end, the food friends accomplish their goal of fighting back against the humans, but not without a price and a weird sexually charged celebration that will catch you off-guard.
If the goal was to get a jaw dropping reaction, good or bad, from people, the movie accomplishes that. However, if the humor was slightly less raunchy, more people would want to see this film and enjoy it.
