'LIP' program set for discussion

The state Agency for Health Care Administration has scheduled a meeting Tuesday to take input on the Low Income Pool program, which could funnel as much as $1.5 billion during the coming year to hospitals that care for large numbers of poor and uninsured patients.

The agency has been negotiating details of the program with the federal Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services.

A large part of the money for the program would come from the federal government.

In an email Wednesday, Agency for Health Care Administration spokeswoman Mallory McManus indicated that negotiations continue on what are known as “terms and conditions” of how the money could be used.

“The Agency (for Health Care Administration) is in the process of discussing final terms and conditions with federal CMS, and will be providing what information we have on June 13th regarding the flexibilities that CMS is providing regarding the Low Income Pool model and distribution of LIP funds,” McManus said in the email.

After the details are finalized, the Agency for Health Care Administration will submit a budget amendment to the Legislature seeking release of the money.

Tuesday's meeting is scheduled for 2:30 pm. at Leu Gardens in Orlando.
