Another dangerously hot day across NE Florida and SE Georgia

. (.)

Dangerous heat continues across Northeast Florida and Southeast Georgia through the end of the workweek, with only limited overnight relief. Afternoon temperatures will climb into the upper 90s Wednesday and Thursday, but high humidity will make it feel closer to 109 to 110 degrees in Jacksonville. A Heat Advisory remains in effect across much of the area, and additional heat alerts may be needed through Friday. The hottest part of the day will generally run from noon through 6 p.m., so stay hydrated, take frequent breaks in the shade or air conditioning and never leave children or pets inside a parked vehicle.

Scattered showers and thunderstorms are expected to develop late Wednesday afternoon, mainly after 5 p.m., with rain chances near 60%. Storms may bring locally heavy rainfall, frequent lightning and gusty winds before gradually fading Wednesday evening. Thursday will remain hot and humid with a high near 97 degrees, a heat index approaching 109 and a lower, 30% chance of a late-day storm.

Rain chances increase again Friday and continue through the weekend. Scattered to numerous afternoon and evening thunderstorms are expected each day, with rain chances near 60% Friday and Saturday and around 50% Sunday. Temperatures will slowly ease from the mid-90s Friday and Saturday into the lower 90s Sunday, but humidity will remain high. Overnight lows will stay in the middle to upper 70s, offering little relief from the prolonged stretch of summer heat.
