Stigmas, embarrassment are factors in rise of colorectal cancer in younger people, doctor says

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – There is a terrifying rise in younger patients getting diagnosed with colorectal cancer.

A report from the American Cancer Society shows that colon cancer rates are on the upswing for people younger than 50.

Dr. Alex Crean, a leader in colorectal surgery with HCA Florida in Jacksonville, joined us on The Morning Show to explain the worrying trend.

He said the alarming rise is being seen in more 20-somethings.

Crean explained it has to do with stigmas and embarrassment. The reality is a basic test can diagnose the problem.

And colorectal cancer can be prevented -- and cured if caught early.
