State Attorney Files Petition To Expunge Butler Record

Butler's Criminal History Arrest For Murder To Be Destroyed

JACKSONVILLE – State Attorney Harry Shorstein filed a petition Tuesday in the Circuit Court of Duval County to expunge the arrest record of Brenton Butler.

The petition was filed with Circuit Court Judge Waddell A. Wallace, the presiding judge in Butler's case.

Shorstein said, "I have filed a petition in Circuit Court today to expunge the arrest record of Brenton Butler. This is one more in a series of steps to rectify some of the damage done with the wrongful arrest and prosecution of Brenton Butler."

The filing of the petition follows by one day, Shorstein's decision to ask Florida Gov. Jeb Bush to appoint a special prosecutor to examine his offices' handling of the Butler case.

The expungement of Butler's arrest record means that the Circuit Court will sign an order to destroy the criminal history of Butler's arrest for murder.
