On Tuesday, St. Johns County Sheriff's Office Detective William Werle got a tip that Sparrow could be at a relative's house in Palm Coast. He called the Flagler County Sheriff's Office, which spotted a vehicle, believed to be driven by Sparrow, shortly before 5 p.m. The car sped away from officers, who found it abandoned in the roadway.
Since police believed Sparrow fled into nearby woods, a perimeter was established, air units from Volusia and St. Johns counties -- along with officers with the Florida Highway Patrol and the Florida Fish and Wildlife Commission -- searched until Sparrow was captured about 9 p.m.
Sparrow is accused of holding up a King Street store at closing time on Sept. 25. Police say Sparrow approached the clerk, placed the barrel of the gun to his face and demanded money from the cash register. An undisclosed amount of cash was placed in a bag and the suspect left on foot.
Sparrow is being held in the Flagler County Jail on charges of armed robbery with a firearm and possession of a firearm by a convicted felon. He is being held on bonds totaling $110,000.
