Suspect Allegedly Kills Couple In North Carolina

A 37-year-old man believed to be responsible for a shooting death on Interstate 4 near DeLand, Fla., allegedly killed two people in North Carolina before turning his gun on himself Monday as law enforcement authorities closed in on him.

Volusia County Sheriff?s Office investigators said Douglas McClymont, 37, is suspected in Sunday's murder of a local man found dead on the side of I-4 east of DeLand.

The victim has been identified as 53-year-old William Bowes of Lake Helen.

McClymont is suspected of brutally pistol-whipping Bowes on the side of the road before shooting him, according to Local 6 News. Bowes' body was located a short while later by a passer-by.

After allegedly killing Bowes, McClymont is accused of driving to the victim's home in Lake Helen and abducting his 34-year-old wife, Deborah Bowes. McClymont then reportedly drove to North Carolina with the victim's wife.

McClymont (pictured, left) is then suspected of killing a couple in Franklin, N.C. and abducting his own estranged wife who was in the area.

North Carolina authorities found the victims, a 60-year-old man and his 61-year-old wife, dead inside their home at about 12:02 a.m. Monday morning.

About two hours later, McClymont was captured in Murphy, N.C. after a pursuit involving the Cherokee County Sheriff's Department.

According to Cherokee County officials, McClymont shot himself while fleeing from officers and wrecked his vehicle. Deborah Bowes and McClymont?s estranged wife were in the vehicle, but were not seriously injured.

McClymont apparently knew the Bowes, but investigators with the Volusia County Sheriff?s Office's Major Case Unit are still trying to sort out the nature of the relationship and the motive in the killings.

Authorities in Tennessee are interviewing Deborah Bowes and McClymont's estranged wife in an effort to sort out the details. The North Carolina State Bureau of Investigations also is assisting in the investigation.

The Volusia County Sheriff?s Office has dispatched investigators to North Carolina to interview the witnesses. The Volusia County Medical Examiner's Office is conducting an autopsy to confirm the cause of William Bowes' death.
