Man Sentenced To Life In Ex-Girlfriend's Murder

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – A man who admitted to killing the mother of his children in Northwest Jacksonville has been sentenced to life in prison with the possibility of parole.

In court Tuesday, Shirae Hickson, 28, tearfully apologized to the family of his ex-girlfriend, Chiffon Bryant. Hickson pleaded guilty to second-degree murder for gunning down Bryant, who was the mother of his two children, in a Northwest Jacksonville hair salon in January 2002.

"She was a good person," said Hickson of Bryant. "She was real smart."

Bryant's family also presented victim-impact statements to the judge. They said they were satisfied with the verdict.

According to police, Hickson entered the salon and chased Bryant into the bathroom, where he shot her several times. He was a fugitive for more than a year before police arrested him in March 2003.
