Woman Slain In Wells Road Vet Clinic

ORANGE PARK, Fla. – After spending hours at the scene where a woman was found dead on Tuesday morning, Clay County Sheriff Rick Beseler said evidence in the case suggests the victim may have walked in on an attempted burglary.

The body of 25-year-old Andrea Boyer was found inside the Wells Road Veterinary Medical Center in the 1400 block of Wells Road early Tuesday in what the Clay County sheriff called an obvious homicide.

"The victim apparently surprised someone at the time she arrived at work this morning. We believe the perpetrator was committing a burglary at the time she arrived," Beseler said.

Boyer's body was found just before 7 a.m. when a co-worker arrived for work.

Officials said no medication or animals in the building were missing from the center. Deputies did find that money was taken, leading them to believe the slaying may have been motivated by robbery.

Investigators spent all day processing what they called an ugly crime scene. A bloodhound from the Union County Correctional Facility was brought in to try and track any scent of someone leaving the building.

Later in the day, officials said a witness who saw news coverage about the slaying called police and reported seeing an early 1990s, grey or silver pickup truck leaving the area at about 5:45 a.m.

Investigators are also looking at surveillance cameras from surrounding businesses, hoping that may lead them to a perpetrator.

Beseler asked that anyone who saw that pickup or anyone leaving the clinic between 5:30 and 7 a.m. call the Clay County Sheriff's Office or Crimestoppers at 866-845-TIPS.

Beseler said the crime occurred less than 100 yards from the Duval County line, so they will be sharing information about the homicide with the Jacksonville Sheriff's Office.

This is the third slaying in the Orange Park area in the past four weeks, according to the Clay County Sheriff's Office.
