Wife Of Winn-Dixie Founder Dies At 101

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – Flo Davis, the widow of the founder of Jacksonville-based Winn-Dixie, J.E. Davis., has died after a long illness. She was 101.

Flo Davis was a civic leader and philanthropist in the River City. She was also a long-time member of the board of trustees at Jacksonville University and the first woman to serve as the chairman of the board.

Fran Kinne, who served as president of JU for many years, says Davis was one of the most remarkable people she's ever known and was always gracious to everyone.

Davis is survived by her son, Dano, and daughter, Dottie.

A funeral service is being planned for Saturday.
