GAINESVILLE, Fla. – A 23-year-old Gainesville mother has been charged with murder after she was accused of killing her child, the Gainesville Police Department said to News4JAX on Wednesday.
Police said they responded to the scene at the Sweetwater Square Apartments on NE 15th Street after investigators said the mother called police to admit that she had drowned her child in the bathtub.
Investigators said a domestic incident inside the apartment happened around the time of the murder, but the circumstances surrounding what led to the child’s death remained unclear.
The 7-month-old was found unresponsive in the bathtub, and life-saving measures were performed, but the baby died at the hospital.
The investigation is ongoing.
