FLAGLER COUNTY, Fla. – A Flagler County man was sentenced Tuesday to 50 years in prison on child sex abuse charges.
On Monday, just before a jury was to be selected to try the case, 56-year-old Philip Maida Jr. pleaded guilty as charged to two counts of sexual activity with a child at least 12 years old but younger than 18 by a person in familial or custodial authority.

Prosecutors said the case involved years of ongoing sexual abuse to two girls who were sisters. Prosecutors said the girls said no to Maida's advances to no avail.
According to a police report, one sister estimated that Maida sexually abused her at least 100 times between the ages of 11 or 12 until she was 19 years old. The other sister estimated that she was sexually abused up to 50 times between the ages of 12 and 16.
Nearly a decade of abuse came to an end when the sisters came forward to report their abuse to the Flagler County Sheriff's Office in May 2010, prosecutors said.
