County-by-county: A look at vaccination rates among seniors in Northeast Florida
Ron DeSantis says Florida is almost to the point where 75 % of seniors have received at least one dose of the COVID-19 vaccine. But some counties in Northeast Florida are ahead of the state in getting those 65 and older protected against COVID-19. Statewide, nearly 73% of seniors have received at least one dose, according to data from the Florida Department of Health. Nassau County is also outperforming the rest of the state, with 80% of seniors getting at least one dose in the county. St. Johns County was one of the first counties in the state where Publix pharmacies offered COVID-19 shots.

Deputies: Teens blame autopilot for crash with patrol car
Deputies said a Tesla stopped going the wrong way on State Road 100 proceeded to back into a patrol car. PALM COAST, Fla. – A pair of South Carolina teenagers claimed that their car was on autopilot before it crashed into a Florida deputy’s patrol car, according to the Flagler County Sheriff’s Office. When questioned, the girls said the Tesla was driving itself in autopilot mode when it backed into the patrol car. Investigators later determined that one of the teens was operating the vehicle before putting it in autopilot, causing the crash. No damage was done to the patrol car, officials said.

Homeowners find man dead in canal behind house
FLAGLER COUNTY, Fla. – A 40-year-old man from Palm Coast has died after he drove down a grassy embankment and into a canal, according to Florida Highway Patrol. Investigators said the man’s vehicle was traveling west on Casper Drive in Flagler County around 10:30 p.m. Thursday. According to the report, as the vehicle approached the intersection with Club House Drive, it continued down a grassy embankment and into a canal. The crash was not discovered until the homeowners saw the partially submerged vehicle at 11:20 p.m., according to FHP. News4Jax requested the full crash report.
21-year-old man accused of raping underage girl
A report that a young girl was subjected to a string of violent sexual assaults at a Palm Coast home has resulted in the arrest of 21-year-old Isaac Julio Becker, according to the Flagler County Sheriff’s Office. Detectives investigating since November were told of multiple incidents between 2017 and 2019 when the girl was between 13 and 15 years old. According to the report, the girl was forcibly restrained and prevented from calling for help. The investigation produced probably cause to charge Becker with two counts of sexual battery and two counts of lewd or lascivious battery. Detectives traveled to Virginia and received assistance from local agencies to arrest Becker, who the Sheriff’s Office said confessed to the crimes.
Florida reports 3,312 additional COVID-19 cases, 83 more deaths
JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – The Florida Department of Health on Monday reported 3,312 new cases of the coronavirus and 83 additional deaths related to the virus. The state Department of Health has now reported a total of 1,948,307 COVID-19 cases and 32,349 coronavirus-related deaths since March 2020. Duval County has recorded 89,831 total cases, including 107 cases that were reported Monday. The statewide positivity rate based on Sunday’s testing was 5.95%, the health department said Monday. Health department data released Monday showed that 3,590,686 people in Florida have received at least one COVID-19 vaccine shot.

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – The Florida Department of Health on Sunday reported 4,098 new cases of the coronavirus and 66 additional deaths related to the virus. Of those deaths, 17 were recorded in Northeast Florida: 15 in Duval County (1,208 total deaths), one in Alachua County (236) and one in Flagler County (93). The state Department of Health has now reported a total of 1,944,995 COVID-19 cases and 32,266 coronavirus-related deaths since March 2020. Duval County has recorded 89,724 total cases, including 87 cases that were reported Sunday. The statewide positivity rate based on Saturday’s testing was 5.84%, the health department said Sunday.

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – The Florida Department of Health on Sunday reported 5,539 new cases of the coronavirus and 126 additional deaths related to the virus. Of those deaths, 34 were recorded in Northeast Florida: 24 in Duval County (1,164 total deaths), four in Alachua County (232), three in Flagler County (92), two in St. Johns County (197) and one in Baker County (56). The state Department of Health has now reported a total of 1,909,221 COVID-19 cases and 31,406 deaths related to COVID-19 since March. Duval County has recorded 88,774 total cases, including 196 cases that were reported Sunday. Health department data released Sunday showed that 3,017,661 people in Florida have received at least one COVID-19 vaccine shot.
CVS Pharmacy in Flagler County to offer COVID-19 vaccinations
A CVS Pharmacy store in Flagler County will begin offering COVID-19 vaccinations, Florida Gov. DeSantis said the Flagler County location is among 15 traditional CVS Pharmacy stores across Florida that will start giving vaccine shots to seniors in underserved areas. In addition, DeSantis said, the 35 CVS y más stores and the 31 Navarro Discount Pharmacy stores in Miami-Dade County will offer vaccinations. It was not immediately announced which CVS Pharmacy location in Flagler County will administer vaccinations. Appointments for vaccinations at those 81 CVS Pharmacy, CVS y más and Navarro Discount Pharmacy locations in Florida will become available for booking later this week as stores receive shipments of vaccine doses.
