Investigators said they found Joseph Divino, an anesthesiology nurse, sitting inside his pickup truck.
The police report said the area he was found in is known to be a high drug trafficking area, and when officers looked in Divino's truck, police found several vials of drugs that appeared to be controlled substances.
Divino told police that he had checked out the anesthesia kit, which included several vials of drugs, but forgot to check it back in at the end of his shift.
The report also said that a used syringe was located on the suspect's floor board.
According to the report, Divino admitted he once had a problem with the drugs and attended rehab. Police then arrested him.
Channel 4 stopped by Divino's home on Friday. He answered the door but didn't comment.
Shands issued a statement, saying in part, "The allegations involve the possible theft of drugs from Shands Jacksonville, which if true is unacceptable. As always, our goal is to provide the best possible service to our patients and their families in a safe, secure environment."
Shands said Divino was suspended without pay as they investigated.
Neighbors said they had no idea that Divino had gotten in trouble.
Divino was charged with possession of a controlled substance and theft of a controlled substance. He was released from jail Thursday.
