Woman shot inside Westside Applebee's dies

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – A man was arrested after police said he shot and killed a woman Sunday night inside the Applebee's restaurant on Lane Avenue, according to the Jacksonville Sheriff's Office.

Sgt. Shawn Coarsey with JSO said that the man entered the restaurant about 7:55 p.m. and shot the victim at least once. The woman was taken to the hospital, where she died of her injuries.

Coarsey said witnesses detained the shooting suspect until police arrived and arrested him.

Jennifer Ford said her daughter was inside Applebee's at the time.

"My daughter and her friend were inside eating and they heard 4 or 5 gunshots. She said the girl ran through the door saying he just shot my mom. They hit the deck and my daughter went over the booth to the next booth, her friend went under and they had to crawl out through the back and they hid in the bushes and called police, who told her to stay in the bushes until they got there," Ford said.

Coarsey said a teen was with the woman when she was shot. The teen was not hurt, but went to the hospital with the woman, who police believe is her mother.

The names of those involved were not released Sunday night.
