Masked man killed in Gainesville home invasion

Search for second masked man continues

GAINESVILLE, Fla. – A man who attempted to rob an apartment in Gainesville was found dead Wednesday evening, deputies said.

The home invasion robbery happened around 5:52 p.m. Wednesday at the Grove Villas apartment complex at 6400 Southwest 20th Ave., according to the Alachua County Sheriff's Office.

Police said two masked men tried to rob an apartment that was occupied.

One of the masked men, identified as 23-year-old Taylor William Killingsworth, was shot by the resident of the apartment, according to the Sheriff's Office. Killingsworth was found dead at the scene.

The other suspect then fled the scene. Authorities said police are still trying to find him. He is described as black, about 6 feet 2 inches tall and has a thin build.

The Alachua County Sheriff's Office and the Gainesville Police Department are investigating the incident. Police urged residents to stay out of the area as they searched for the second suspect.
