One person hurt in Melbourne officer-involved shooting

Police officer fires weapon during traffic stop

MELBOURNE, Fla. – One person is recovering from injuries after an officer-involved shooting in Brevard County.

Investigators say a Melbourne police officer fired his gun, early Saturday, during a traffic stop near the Shull Manor Apartments on East University Boulevard.

Police say during the traffic stop, the driver tried to run over the officer with his car. 

The officer fired a shot, hitting one person inside the car.

Police have not released the condition of the shooting victim.

As with any police involved shooting, the Florida Department of Law Enforcement is investigating.
