JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – Publix Super Markets presented The Salvation Army of Northeast Florida with a check for $120,828 Wednesday from Publix's Food for All initiative.

The money was raised from an initiative in which customers donate at the cash register to help provide food for Florida families in need. Dwaine Stevens, Publix manager of media and community relations, made the presentation.

The donation is the largest The Salvation Army of Northeast Florida has received from the project, and the funds will go directly to help people in the community who need food assistance.

"We are extremely grateful for this incredibly generous gift," said Major Stacie McWilliams, area co-commander of The Salvation Army of Northeast Florida. "These funds will make an enormous, direct impact on the lives of so many in this community. We are honored to be entrusted with this money to provide food for people facing hardship, and it has always been central to the mission of The Salvation Army to do just that."

The Salvation Army of Northeast Florida provides a hot dinner for the homeless and the working poor in Jacksonville seven nights a week, and provides three meals a day for the residents of the Red Shield Lodge women's and family shelter, as well as the Towers Center of Hope transitional housing for men.

In 2014 The Salvation Army of Northeast Florida served nearly 96,000 meals. The organization also distributes supplemental groceries though its food pantry, serving 250 income eligible households per week.

"We are elated to be aligned with such a reputable organization that focuses on the betterment of individuals and their families," Stevens said. "We value the support of our customers and The Salvation Army's expertise to improve the lives of those that need it most."
