Boy in stable condition after accidental shooting

Jacksonville police say 11-year-old shot by his twin brother with their mom's rifle

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – An 11-year-old is in stable condition after he was accidentally shot by his twin brother in their Westside home about 9 p.m. Wednesday.

According to the Jacksonville Sheriff's Office, twin boys got their mother's long-barrel rifle when one of the boys accidentally shot the other in the home on Redrac Street.

According to the police report, the bullet entered the boy's arm and exited from his back. He was taken to UF Health Jacksonville with non-life-threatening injuries.

Police were told one of the boys pointed the gun down the hall and pulled the trigger as his brothers walked into the hall. The boy told police he did not see his brother.

Authorities say the mother went shopping, leaving the boys home alone. Detectives said the family and brother were cooperating in the investigation.

The Florida Department of Children and Families is also investigating.
