JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – Florida Highway Patrol says a U.S. Postal Service tractor-trailer hit a 16-year-old boy at Blanding Boulevard and 118th Street.

According to FHP, Ganaliel Guzman was riding a bicycle just after 4:30 a.m. when he was hit by the big rig., which was traveling in the south inside lane of Blanding when the driver, 69-year-old Russel Jackson, spotted Guzman.

The FHP report states the truck driver, Russel Jackson, 69, had a green light at the time of the crash. The driver told troopers he saw the bicyclist at the last minute and tried to apply the breaks and swerve to the right to miss Guzman, but couldn't avoid hitting him.

The teen suffered some bumps and bruises. He was taken to the hospital, but is expected to be OK.

FHP says the teen will be cited for failure to yield to oncoming traffic. Troopers say the driver will not be cited.

All southbound lanes of Blanding Boulevard and one northbound lane were closed for about an hour while authorities investigated.
