JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – A vessel selected to replace the El Faro was issued a certificate of inspection and was scheduled to depart San Diego on Monday.
The Coast Guard issued the certificate of inspection on Saturday, according to gCaptain's website.
The 736-foot vessel named Isla Bella is the first container ship in the world capable of operating on liquefied natural gas, according to General Dynamics, a global aerospace and defense company.
The container ship delivered to TOTE Maritime will be the cleanest cargo-carrying ship in the world. The technology will decrease emissions and remove the equivalent of 15,700 automobiles from the road, according to General Dynamics.
The Isla Bella is one of two ships built in San Diego for operation by TOTE Services that will operate between Jacksonville and San Juan, Puerto Rico.
