JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – A 70-year-old man was found dead early Friday morning in his home on McConihe Street after neighbors reported hearing gunshots, according to the Jacksonville Sheriff's Office.

Police later identified the man as Fredrick Leon Cuffie.

According to JSO, residents pointed officers to the home on McConihe at Barnett Street about 7:50 a.m. Rescue personnel saw a man shot just in side the front door behind burglar bars. The house was locked and Jacksonville Fire-Rescue had to remove burglar bars to get inside.

Homicide detectives said Cuffie died from a gunshot wound, but no weapons were found in an initial search of the home.

Officers do suspect foul play and are investigating.
