JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – A Jacksonville man was sentenced Friday to 25 years in prison for his conviction on aggravated assault on a law enforcement officer and five counts of resisting an officer with violence.

In July 2013, Jacksonville Sheriff's officers went to a pawn shop on Beach Boulevard after being notified that Edward Jack Garvin, 48, who had pawned several stolen items at pawn shops in the area and had an outstanding warrant, was there, according to the State Attorney's Office.

When officers informed Garvin of his arrest, he pulled a gun, which was discharged and grazed an officer's forearm, prosecutors said.
