Education: Bethune-Cookman College, BS; University of Florida, M.Ed. & Ed.S.

Political experience: Served 13 years as City Commissioner, and served 3 terms as Mayor of Starke. Assisted the City of Starke in acquiring district cleanup crews. Helped to guide the City in developing a City webpage, upgraded recording system for meetings, and on-line billing services. Helped to facilitate the City in the development of its first strategic planning process. Helped to guide the city in pursuing grants for better housing, road improvements, recreation, sewer & water improvements. Initiated the City employee recognition program & the first City Hall Open House celebration to encourage better communication & open government. Served 10 yrs on the North Central Florida Regional Planning Council Board which consists of 11 counties & 33 cities, and was the first female African American Chair of the board. Serves on the International Relations Committee for the Florida League of Cities, President of North Central FL Area wide Development Co., Inc & 2nd Vice Pres. of the Regional Councils Association. Received 2 Gubernatorial appointments by former Governor Bob Graham; Bradford County Historical Bd. of Trustees, & Florida Governor’s Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Celebration Commission. Organized the first Dr. MLK Jr. Day Celebration for Bradford County. Helped to organize the Lincoln City Crime Prevention program and was recognized by Secretary of DOC for fighting crime in the community.

 

What do you see as the top three issues in this race?

1. Better working Relationship needed between County & City government

2. Improvement needed in the maintenance of Streets and Roadways

3. Improvement needed in Recreational facilities for our Youth

 


How can you help voters in a way that the others running for this office can’t?

I can help facilitate a better working relationship between the county and city government, and the business community to support youth and family recreation. I can help improve the maintenance of our streets and roadways.

 

What would you hope to be remembered for accomplishing after serving in this office?

Improving local government and helping Bradford County to become one of the best communities to live, work, raise a family and educate our children for future generations to come.
