Police: Teenage girl shot while sitting in car

Jacksonville Sheriff's Office considers shooting a drive-by

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – A 16-year-old girl was shot in the lower leg just before 9 p.m. Monday while she was sitting in a car in Northwest Jacksonville with five people, including a 10-year-old girl, according to the Jacksonville Sheriff's Office.

The teen, who News4Jax is not naming because the gunman is still on the loose, was hit in the leg and taken to UF Health Jacksonville with non-life-threatening injuries. No one else in the car was injured.

Officers investigating at the scene at West 34th and Pearce streets, west of Moncrief Road, said the gunshots were fired into the vehicle, but it was unclear where they came from or if the girl was the intended target.

Anyone with information about the case is asked to call Crime Stoppers at 866-845-TIPS.

This was the fourth shooting incident reported Monday in Jacksonville, with a total of five victims shot.
