ALACHUA COUNTY, Fla. – A driver who ran a red light and caused a crash at an Alachua County intersection tried to run away from the scene and was arrested Tuesday night, according to the Florida Highway Patrol.

Dean Rossin, 27, is facing charges of leaving a scene without rendering aid and failing to stop at a red light.

The crash left a 30-year-old woman and her 3-year-old daughter with minor injuries.

According to the FHP report, Rossin was headed east on Newberry Road in a Nissan Sentra and drove into the turn lane to get around traffic that was stopped at the red light at NW 75th Street. When he entered the intersection, his car was struck by a Toyota Rav4 that had moved into the intersection on a green light, troopers said.

According to witnesses, Rossin tried to drive away from the crash, but his car was too disabled, so he got out and tried to run away.

He was detained by Alachua County deputies.

Rossin suffered minor injuries, troopers said.
