Police identify man found dead in Westside home

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – The Westside man found dead of a gunshot wound in his Westside home early Monday morning has been identified as 21-year-old Jahleel George.

The Jacksonville Sheriff's Office responded to a 4:30 a.m. call about a person dead inside a home on Woodcrest Road, just south of Interstate 10, near Cassat Avenue.

"At this point, it’s very preliminary. We’re still trying to find witnesses, if anyone saw or heard anything, and determine what took place," said Sgt. Robert John.

Dionne Knight said her brother lived at the home where police conducted the investigation.

"We don’t know anything right now. All I know is that’s my brother’s house and we got a call saying he got shot," Dionne Knight said Monday morning.

Knight said she has no idea why somebody would shoot her brother. She added that he is a sweet boy and a straight-A student.

Anyone with information about George's shooting death is asked to call Crime Stoppers at 866-845-TIPS.
