Police identify man found dead in street Feb. 8 No description found
JACKSONVILLE, Fla – The man found dead of a gunshot wound early the morning of 12:45 a.m. was identified as 54-year-old Eric Smothers.
Smothers was found injured on Benedict Road, near the intersection of Moncrief Road and West 45th Street, about 12:45 a.m. He was taken to UF Health Jacksonville, where he died.
Witnesses in the area said they heard a verbal argument before the shooting.
Smothers lived nearby, according to the police report.
