‘Person of interest' in Jacksonville native's death arrested in Louisiana

Alfredo Capote wanted on warrant for rape, robbery, kidnapping of Jokisha Brown

OIL CITY, La. – A "person of interest" in the death of a Jacksonville native was arrested in north Louisiana in an unrelated case, authorities say.

The Caddo Parish Sheriff's Office said deputies picked up 30-year-old Alfredo L. Capote on Tuesday at an apartment complex in Oil City. The Shreveport Times reports deputies went to the apartment complex after connecting Capote to an ongoing counterfeit check operation.

Capote, of Atlanta, was wanted on a warrant from Gwinnett County police in connection with last April's rape, armed robbery, kidnapping and sexual battery of 35-year-old Jokisha Brown, who is said to be his ex-girlfriend, according to WAGA-TV in Atlanta.

Three months later, the aspiring actress and model was shot to death while sitting in her car at a strip mall where she had visited a beauty salon, one day before her 36th birthday.

Georgia law enforcement officials say Capote is a "person of interest" in her homicide.

Brown was well-known in her hometown of Jacksonville and graduated from Ribault High School.

Days after her death, friends and family members held a candlelight vigil at Friendship Fountain in downtown Jacksonville, saying Brown was a kind and uplifting person.

Capote is being held at the Caddo Correctional Center. It's unclear when he could be transferred to Atlanta to face charges in Brown's case.
