JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – As evening arrives, storm activity is expected to scatter and drift offshore, with southwesterly winds turning mild and variable overnight.
Overnight, relief will be modest at best. Inland areas can expect low temperatures to settle in the lower to mid-70s, while coastal communities will hold a touch warmer in the mid-70s.
Heat index values to top 100 degrees
Even without the storms, the heat alone tells quite a story. Saturday afternoon high temperatures are forecast to climb into the lower to mid-90s inland, with slightly cooler readings in the lower 90s along the coastline.
The real concern, though, is the heat index — what the air actually feels like when humidity is factored in. Values are expected to exceed 100 degrees across portions of southeast Georgia and nearly all of northeast Florida in afternoon.
