Deputies: Boy makes up story after being accidentally shot by friend

PALATKA, Fla. – A 15-year-old shot in the leg in Palatka made up a story to protect his friend, according to the Putnam County Sheriff's Office.

Deputies said the shooting was reported Tuesday afternoon on Green Drive.

The boy suffered a non-life-threatening injury to his leg.

Deputies initially said in a social media post that the shooter hadn't been identified, but later said the boy concocted a story to protect his friend.

They said the shooting was accidental.
