HOUSTON – As Hurricane Harvey threatens the Houston area, families whose homes are still on the ground face a choice; Should they stay to protect their home and belongings or should they leave?
The Khan family decided they did not want to experience a potential flood again. They woke up to water in their house during the Memorial Day 2015 flood.

“Feeling a little, what I call PTSD,” Salimah Khan said. “We went through this experience two years ago.”
So they were rolling up rugs, picking up furniture and laying down sandbags to protect their home. Then, they were loading their kids up in the car and heading north.
“We actually secured a hotel room in the Woodlands, so that way if the electricity goes out we won't be without food and electricity,” Salimah Khan said.
“We were thinking of going to Dallas, but we didn't want to be so far away,” said Mustafa Khan, Salimah’s husband. “So that's why, the Woodlands is close enough and we were thinking to just ride it out and see how things go over the weekend.”
Just a few doors down, some of the Khan’s neighbors were leaving too. Joseph Washburn said he had to convince his 89-year-old mother and 90-year-old father to leave their Meyerland home.
"So we're watching the weather, and before it gets too bad we're going to go up to Spring," said Joseph Washburn.
Washburn’s parents have lived in their Meyerland home since 1959.
