Shortly before that, officers said, they spotted a black Dodge Journey minivan that had been reported stolen Monday and began to follow it as it turned onto eastbound I-10 and then on northbound I-95.
Police said the driver of the stolen van got off on Norwood Avenue from I-95, then ran a red light at the intersection and hit two cars, damaging them.
According to police, four teenagers were inside the black vehicle and ran off, but were each captured after a short search.
The driver, 16, was seen holding a silver pistol before an officer attempted to pin him against the driver's door of the stolen van with the police cruiser's push bumper, causing him to drop the gun and run off.
He was caught after a brief foot pursuit, police said. He was charged with possession of a weapon or ammunition by a Florida delinquent and theft of a motor vehicle.
Another responding officer saw Deon Manick, 19, and Marquese Holloway, 18, run off from the scene toward Escambia Street. Holloway was able to jump over a fence and keep running, but Manick was taken into custody before he could make it over the fence, police said. The stolen vehicle key was found in Manick's pocket. Rescue crews treated Manick on scene for minor injuries from the crash, police said.
Manick was charged with theft of a motor vehicle and resisting officer without violence.
A K9 officer that responded to the scene was able to find Holloway not far from where Manick was caught. Holloway, who was bleeding from his hands and thigh, was transported to UF Health and absentee booked, police said.
Holloway was charged with theft of a motor vehicle and trespassing in an occupied structure or conveyance, according to the report.
Officers also caught Jonathan Robinson, 18, after a short foot pursuit, police said. He was charged with theft of a motor vehicle and resisting officer without violence.
Police said another silver handgun was found in the back seat of the stolen vehicle.
