Police release photo of car driven by possible killer

Police believe car was used in killing of Jonathan Rivera

Jacksonville police released a surveillance photo of a car they believe could belong to whoever killed Jonathan Rivera.

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – Police on Saturday released a photo of a car they believe was used by whoever shot and killed Jonathan Michael Rivera on Wednesday night.

The Jacksonville Sheriff's Office said officers found the 28-year-old shot in his car on Westland Oaks Drive, off Collins Road. He died at the scene.

Rivera, 28, leaves behind a wife and three young sons.

"There was not a bigger person with a bigger heart," Bill Calhound, Rivera's co-worker, told News4Jax. "I hope his kids remember that about their dad."

The vehicle in the photo is believed to have been driven by, or occupied by, whoever killed Rivera.

Anyone with information about the vehicle or driver is asked to call the Jacksonville Sheriff's Office at 904-630-0500. To remain anonymous and receive a possible reward up to $3,000, contact Crime Stoppers at 1-866-845-TIPS.

"I’m hopeful that they can arrive to something and bring this to a close," neighbor Tyrone Grant said. "I know the family. It must be very heartbreaking."

Rivera was the third person slain in the Duclay neighborhood of the Westside in the past year.

In March, Brandon Webb, 24, was shot to death in his car at a paint store, police said. No arrest has been made in that case.

Last July, Christopher Thurston, 20, was killed in a double shooting at a gas station on Blanding Boulevard. An arrest was made in that case.
