GLYNN COUNTY, Georgia – An elderly Glynn County man with dementia was safely located on Interstate 95 Saturday evening after a stranger drove off in the vehicle he was riding in. The man was unharmed, and the suspect was later apprehended with help from neighboring law enforcement agencies.
At approximately 7 p.m. on Sept. 27, Glynn County Police were notified that a black Cadillac Escalade had left the QuikTrip at 90 Pilot Lane. The caller said he had gone inside the store and initially believed his father, who has dementia, had driven away in the vehicle.

Technology leads officers to the vehicle
Using Flock Safety camera data, officers determined the Escalade had entered northbound I-95 at Exit 29. An officer later spotted the vehicle and conducted a traffic stop near the 40-mile marker.
The officer found the elderly man in the front passenger seat with an unknown man behind the wheel. While the officer was helping the elderly man out of the Escalade, the driver sped away.
Father, son reunited at police headquarters
The elderly man was not injured and was transported to Glynn County Police Headquarters, where he was reunited with his son.
The Escalade was pursued by the McIntosh County Sheriff’s Office and Georgia State Patrol. The driver, a 21 man from Chicopee, Massachusetts, was apprehended, and the vehicle was returned to its owner.
