Man who banged on window of home, shot, killed by Mandarin homeowner

Jacksonville police interviewing homeowner, another resident

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – A 21-year-old man was shot and killed early Saturday morning when he got into a confrontation with a homeowner after he started banging on a window of the house off Old St. Augustine Road, according to the Jacksonville Sheriff's Office.

At 3:19 a.m. police say a man in his 20s started banging on a window of the home on Attrill Road. A man inside the house called 911 to report the incident.

Police said that before officers arrived the man who lived in the home went outside and got into a confrontation with the other man, during which the homeowner shot and killed him.

It's not known if the man who was shot was trying to break into the home.

Homicide detectives are trying to figure out the relationship between the two, if any. Police say the man who lives in the home and another resident are cooperating in the investigation.

Under Florida’s self defense law, the castle doctrine says individuals have the right to use reasonable force, including deadly force, to protect themselves against an intruder in their home or on their property.

The state attorneys office will review the shooting if it will be justifiable or if charges will be filed.

The names of those involved have not been released. News4Jax will update this story as more information is released from authorities.
