An elderly man died and there were no other people inside the home, according to fire investigators.

"Any time you lose a life to something like that it is a tragedy," neighbor Joaquin Gonzalez said. "He was a nice guy, real quiet, (and was in his) mid-60s."

Gonzalez lives across the street and said his neighbor lived alone.

"He was a very good part of the community. He probably lived here more than 40 years, maybe 50 years," Gonzalez said.

The victim's name has not been released.

Sgt. Larry Smith, with the Jacksonville Beach Police Department, said it sounds like it was an electrical fire.

The state fire marshal's office is working to determine the cause of the fire, but said, "it does appear to be accidental in nature."
