JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – Police have arrested one of two men after a shooting in the parking lot of a motel on Philips Highway near the intersection of Baymeadows Road.

Officers said Steve Browder III, 22, and another man were seen running from the scene around 8 p.m. Wednesday. They later made contact with Browder in the parking lot of InTown Suites and detained him.

The victim, a man in his 40s, was found with a gunshot wound. He was taken to a hospital for non-life threatening injuries.

JSO said Browder was sweating profusely, wet, and covered in dirt and mud when they found him. He tried to tell police he had just been working out and that's why he was sweating so much.

However, police said his description matched the suspect information they were given. A witness also ID'd him to police as one of the two suspects.

Anyone with information was asked to contact police at 904-630-0500 or email JSOCrimeTips@jaxsheriff.org. An anonymous tip can be made to Crime Stoppers by calling 1-866-845-TIPS.

On May 30, a man was found shot in the same area and required treatment at a hospital.
